Direct Heat
The advantage of alternative direct heat treatment for termites has over the fumigation method, no one or the environment is exposed to lethal toxic chemicals.
However, there are disadvantages to using this method :
1. The structure must be completely covered with tarps thereby posing potential roof, landscape and other exterior property damage.
2. All occupants must leave structure.
3. All houseplants must be removed.
4. All heat sensitive items and electronic equipment should be removed.
Based on construction knowledge of typical wood framed structures, HOME SAVING TERMITE CONTROL, INC.® is of the opinion, it would be virtually impossible to heat all wood framing members equally, because of the many different lumber widths, thickness and configurations that make up a structures skeleton framing.
Plastic plumbing pipes, along with vinyl coated alarm, phone, computer, and romex electrical wiring encapsulated inside walls may suffer damage.
It has been reported the propane-fueled heaters have malfunctioned causing explosion and fire destruction.
In our opinion the potential risk of damage outweighs the need for a procedure that provides no protection to prevent termites from reentering and colonizing as soon as a structure cools down.
The Dri-Out DEHYDRATION SYSTEM® pose none of these potential risk of damage. Plus this system provides permanent lasting prevention against drywood termites reoccurring.
